Best used with Multi Mix UHS Clearcoat Kit

MULTI-MIX S4 Thinner is made using the same high grade solvent used in our C4 clearcoat. After realising the market that use our C4 clear are actually happy to pay for the better quality solvent we decided to do just this.

The benefits of using a high grade solvent is most importantly moisture content. Normal thinner is regulated to an extent but not all solvents have a regulated moisture content. The solvent used in S4 has a special C of A with every batch made to make sure it meets a set standard. It is good to note that any 2K isocyanate cured product would certainly benefit from a low moisture content thinner.

Solvents affect flow characteristics. The way solvents evaporate will change the way clearcoat lays down. This is due to how fast and slow the solvent evaporates.

Polar and non polar solvents what is this and why does this affect quality?

The polarity of a solvent used in a thinner will affect how the resin or binder is dissolved. For example, our UHS clearcoat contains high polarity resins these are best broken down with solvents of a high polarity nature so when we formulated this clear, we selected solvents suitable for this type of resin system. Using a thinner which may contain a large amount of non-polar solvents could change the way the clear behaves. Solvents such as Toluene would be perfect at breaking down non polar resins such as oil based paints and long-alkyd resins but wouldn't have a significant benefit being used in a high polar formulation.

To summerise, the solvents used play a huge part in how resins and pigments behave in the formulation and we think that a good quality solvent should always be offered to compliment the range.
